Indian Music

Lorraine runs Indian music workshops for children in schools. The sessions will start with a tabla demonstration with the children seated in a circle on Indian cloths. The children will learn the names and sounds of the many strokes or bolls and will have a chance to try playing some.
The Indian scale Sa Re Gha Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa will be learned and sung and simple melodies will be created with the voice and chime bars.
Simple arrangements will be played with everyone taking part using rhythm, melody and sound effects.

The session will end with an Indian folk tale or fable from the Panchatantara (five ways) This is a collection of traditional tales.

The sessions are ideal for around 15 to 20 children and will last around 1 hour. This workshop is suitable for all key stages and foundation stage.
